Disclaimer: There is some serious home-town love behind this post.
As someone who learnt about style by pounding the pavement of downtown Montreal, oogling some of the most fashionable women in the world (in my humble, unbiased opinion, of course) it’s always a proud moment to see a local line make it big — especially if that line is designed by your hairdresser’s wonderful wife.
Mackage, which was founded in Montreal, QC by Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy in 1999, is one of the most innovative, beautifully-made outerwear lines I’ve ever seen (that’s what happens when you grow up in the Great White North). So-called after Elisa’s childhood mispronounciation of maquillage, the french word for make-up, the line has grown into an internationally recognized brand.
The designers’ first ready-to-wear line opened Fashion Week with a show at the Salon, and wowed the crowds with its sleek leather, luxurious funnel necks, fur-caped shoulders, and signature sumptuous designs. And yes, they design winter coats.
